Association of Standardized Patient Educators (ASPE)

The mission of the Association of Standardized Patient Educators and its members is

to promote and support the development and advancement of Standardized Patient (SP)

education and research in the Health Sciences, including:

*The use and development of Standardized Patient methodology,

* Research about Standardized Patient methodology and use,

* Collaboration among Standardized Patient Educators,

* Continuing education for Standardized Patient Educators,

* Establishment of standards of practice for SP use,

* Safe ethical practices involving use of SP's,

* Representation of the SP's perspective and needs,

* The exchange of resources and information related to SP methodology and educators.

Cancer Teaching and Curriculum Enhancement Resources

The Goal of the CATCHUM Project is to promote and advance cancer prevention and control

education for undergraduate medical students. This Consortium of 8 Texas Medical Schools

is dedicated to developing, implementing and evaluating state-of-the-science education to ensure

that every medical student has an opportunity to become and effective agent for cancer prevention

and control. The site includes OSCE cases, PBL guidelines and other educational resources.

Dalhousie University Simulated Patient Program

This web site provides information on the development of the simulated patient program

at Dalhousie.   New data is added periodically.  Forthcoming revisions will include

information on new  developments in 'objective structured clinical examinations' as

updated links to other sites. The site includes links to other sites and a press kit.

The site provides information related to the assessment of clinical skills for international

medical graduates seeking residencies in US medical schools.  Included is information

about scheduling, application forms, fees, eligibility and the testing center.

This site is designed for the recruitment and evaluation of SPs to be trained as cases for

the medical school curriculum.  The site includes rating forms and a bibliography.

Standardized Patient Scenarios for Teaching and Evaluating Bioethics: this page includes

cases and checklists for the evaluation of ethical decision-making in medical education.

Standardized Patient Trainers Mailing List

SP-Trainer is a listproc mailing list for trainers and other people involved in the use of Standardized

Patients. Discussion includes topics such as: training for physical simulations, training techniques

and issues, case development and sharing, and program development. To subscribe to the

SP-Trainer mailing list, send email to listproc@u.washington.edu with no subject line and the

following line in the body:

subscribe sp-trainer Full Name

Where Full Name is your full name as you would like it to appear to the list. In a few minutes you

will receive a mail stating that your subscription is being approved by the list owner. Within a day

University of Cape Town OSCE in Obstetrics & Gynecology

The site describes the use of OSCE in OB-GYN.  More importantly, it describes a variety of

considerations and obstacles to implementing an OSCE from a faculty perspective.
