Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality

Formerly, the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, is charged with supporting

research to improve the healthcare quality, reduce costs, improve patient safety, decrease

medical errors, and broaden access. The site offers information for physicians and

patients on evidence-based practice, outcomes effectiveness, clinical practice guidelines,

technology assessment, etc. Also has grant fund information and data from national

Alliance for Clinical Education

The Alliance for Clinical Education will work in collaboration with the Association of

American Medical Colleges and its constituencies to develop innovative, integrated, and

cost effective models for the clinical education of medical students. Members include:

ADMSEP (Psychiatry), APGO (OB-GYN), ASE (surgery), CDIM (Medicine), COMSEP

Ambulatory Pediatric Association: APA Online

The APA was founded in 1960 "to improve the teaching of general pediatrics, to improve

services in general pediatrics and to affect public and government opinion regarding

issues vital to teaching, research and patient care in general pediatrics." The purpose of

the APA Online is to extend the research of the APA to a world wide audience via the

American Academy of Family Physicians

Has resources for members, as well as residents, patients and medical students.  Also

has educational materials suitable for high school and college students about the medical

American Association for Higher Education

Association for Medical Education in Europe

Members of AMEE are teachers and organizations or national bodies committed to high

standards of education in medicine and the health care professions.  The site contains

links related to the journal Medical Teacher, as well as conference information, publications

Association for Surgical Education

The Association for Surgical Education was formed in 1980 and its members represent

over 190 medical schools and institutions throughout the United States and Canada. Its

primary goal is to promote the art and science of education in surgery. The site contains

Association of American Medical Colleges

The mission of the Association of American Medical Colleges is to improve the health of the

Association of Medical School Microbiology and Immunology Chairs

AMSMIC promotes the educational and scientific purposes of the field of microbiology and

immunology, and to provide a forum for communication among chairpersons of

Departments of Microbiology and Immunology or equivalent organizational units responsible

The DHHS-FDA site offers a wealth of consumer protection information including

information about buying medical products online, food, medical devices, etc.  The site is

The Generalists in Medical Education welcome basic scientists, clinicians, and other

educators interested in medical education. We are educators who teach, conduct

research, and provide support services in all areas of predoctoral, postdoctoral and

Health Resources and Services Administration

HRSA directs national health programs that improve the Nation's health by assuring

International Association of Medical Science Educators

The mission of IAMSE is to promote medical education through faculty

National Board of Medical Examiners

The central mission of the (NBME) is to prepare and administer qualifying examinations of

high quality, either independently or jointly with other organizations.  The site contains

National Guideline Clearinghouse

The National Guideline Clearinghouse is a public resource for evidence-based clinical

practice guidelines. NGC is sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality

Society of Directors of Research in Medical Education (SDRME)

SDRME is dedicated to enhancing the quality of education in medical schools. It is

Society of Teachers of Family Medicine

The mission of STFM is to enhance family medicine education by developing and

World Federation for Medical Education

WFME is the global organisation concerned with education and training of medical doctors

at all stages, i.e. basic medical education, specialist training and continuing medical

education.  WFME is an umbrella organisation for its six Regional Associations for Medical

Education. The organisational structure follows the WHO model.
