program is to educate individuals in the application of information technology (IT) to health care.

Institute for Higher Education Policy: Benchmarks for Success

The National Education Association (NEA) and Blackboard Inc. have developed an important,

research-driven list of quality benchmarks for distance learning in higher education.  The

list of 24 quality measures is the centerpiece of "Quality On the Line" -- an Institute for

Higher Education Policy study commissioned by NEA and Blackboard Inc.

LUMEN: Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine

LUMEN is designed to network medical education on the WWW. The site has sections for

undergraduate, graduate and continuing medical education. The user can retrieve content

through search engines for the curriculum, multimedia, and lesson databases.

Alternatively, content can be accessed either through links to specific courses and

clerkships or through a directory of computer-aided instructional modules.

MEDCAL: Registration and Evaluation Database of Educational Software

A database of educational software in medicine, odontology and veterinary medicine

developed and maintained by the Swedish Council for the Renewal of Higher Education. 

The database is growing and is searchable by keyword, subject and text fields.

Medical Computing Today

This is a computing and technology site created for physicians and other health care

professionals. The site goal is to present information appropriate to all levels of computing

expertise and all types of academic and clinical practice.  Included is a combination of peer

 reviewed original articles, annotated references to Web resources, and exchanges on

medical computing by and among health care professionals.

Medical Informatics for Faculty Development

A series of Adobe Acrobat instructional manuals covering basic topics of computer-

mediated communications (web browsers, e-mail, newsgroup readers and dial-in

This site is a digital library of authoritative medical information for all students of medicine. 

Categories of resources are: medical textbooks, patient simulations, patient education,

medline and electronic journals, CME and board exams, medical organizations and internet

NetNote: Internet Interface for Writing Clinical Notes

Developed for medical students, NetNote is an H&P learning/writing application.  It presents

 a template for H&P, along with active checklists of over 3,500 findings. Students can

check off findings to be added to the text note. Findings are linked to a database for

further information about findings with which they are unfamiliar.  Runs only on Internet

The Online Directory of Medical Software is a searchable database of more than 1,500

applications and their sources. Maintained by CRI Healthcare Publications.

Online Medical Events

An website that is organized into Live Events (webcasts, etc) and Archived Events. 

Events include audiocasts, slide shows, conference reports. Most are freely available,

although some require health professionals to register online. Many of the events are

sponsored directly or indirectly by pharmaceutical companies.

Superdocs Review of Medical CD-ROMs

A site that provides excellent reviews of a wide number of CD-ROMs for physicians in

many specialties.  The site does not sell these products but doe shave links to vendors.

This program is intended for anyone who is interesting in using the Internet as an effective

 medical resource. It includes a complete 25 minute RealAudio lecture with synchronized

slides by Richard Rathe, MD, Director of Medical Informatics at the University of Florida.
